THE CHARACTER
Character Name: Mark WatneySeries: The Martian (Novel)
Canon Point:
Character Age: 41
Background: It's space, it doesn't cooperate.
Personality: Talk about your character's personality: their core traits, their strengths, their weaknesses, their motivations, and everything in between. Please note that this should focus on your character's personality and should not read like a history section. Also, please keep this section as concise as possible (maximum 1,500 words).
Powers/Abilities:
- PhD in Plant Biology and Conservation Mark is really fucking smart when it comes to the study of plants and utilization of the Earth's various water reserves. Basically, he's got the best green thumb ever, as proven by his ability to grow potatoes on Mars okay?
- Mechanical Engineering If it breaks, he can probably MacGuyver something up and get it running again, though it make have a couple of hiccups here and there. He's not perfect.
- Astronaut Training He's well-versed in all kinds of 21st century space procedure. This is sort of a skill as it takes a long time for astronauts to truly be prepared to go out into space.
- Indomitable Optimism While yes, Mark can take a look at all angles of a very dire situation and admit when he's utterly and completely fucked, he doesn't let that get him down. Mark tries to exhaust ever ounce of his critical thinking and problem solving in order to survive and he doesn't let a bad situation get the best of him.
- Wit He is one of the funniest people you'll ever meet (if you're pop-cultured inclined, and sometimes if you aren't). I promise. He has a joke for everything.
Power Nerfs (if applicable): No, he's a tiny human.
Inventory: His Ares III sweats. That's about it.
Incentives: GET HIM OFF MARS, PLEASE? At this point, Mark just wants off his goddamn planet. Too bad he has to hurtle himself into space even more to do it. Oops.
